Workforce Remodelling

~ a Guide for Governors III

October 2004

Pack 3 in this series of guidance documents for governors is now available.  One copy has been sent from DfES to every Chair of Governors.  Further copies are freely available from NGC.  We suggest that you order enough copies for your staffing/personnel sub committee.

Workforce remodelling is a 3 year process which began in September 2003 with changes to teachers? contracts.  The overall aims are to reduce teacher workload, improve recruitment and retention, and free up teachers? time so that they can concentrate on teaching and learning.  At the same time, an improved career structure for school support staff is being developed with associated training programmes.  There are clearly big implications for governing bodies? strategic role in schools? long term planning.

Information Pack 3 gives advice on the contractual change for cover arrangements, the minimum 10% guaranteed professional time for teachers from September 2005, as well as progress checklists and case studies.

To obtain a free pack contact the National Governors' Council, complete the proforma below, or ring NGC on 0121 616 5104
