Every Child Matters: Change for Children

We have all been discussing for some time the Government?s legislation for changes in the way children's services work together. Every Child Matters: change for Children (ECM) and how the new Children Act 2004 forms the basis of a long-term programme of change will affect our schools.

But we know the thinking behind Every Child Matters: Change for Children is not new. The high expectations and a broad view of supporting children and young people are already common features and embedded in the ethos of many of Croydon's successful schools. However, how many of us still struggle to name the five strands of ECM and identify them individually even though they are secure in our policies, SEF and new school profile?

Identifying how the five strands of ECM ( ACG PowerPoint Presentation  hand outs were provided on the 5 Strands see below)are evident in our school Self evaluation and policies, and sharing the areas of good practice in our own schools.  Governors broke into two groups and discussed the following:

*  Which is the easiest outcome to identify

*    Which is the hardest outcome to identify

*      Where will I find them on my SEF &

*    How will I link them back to policies

*      How is it shared across the GB?

We hope to broaden the theme over the coming year and publish a useful 'Governor's Guide to Every Child Matters' linking it to relevant legislation, School Improvement Plans etc.
